Made in the Himalayas of Nepal, Lokta paper is a tree-free alternative to modern papers, and follows a tradition of over 1,000 years of paper making in Nepal. The paper comes from Lokta Bushes which grow in the high Himalayas of Nepal. Cuttings from the bushes do not kill the plant, but encourage new shoots to grow, making a renewable resource and alternative to tree-based papers. Strippings of the inner bark are cooked in vats, creating a mash of fibers that is then spread by hand across boxed screens and set to dry in the Himalayan sunshine. This boxed set features our thicker card stock paper, and is the perfect way to send a special message. Each page carries a smoother side from the boxed screen and more textured side on the sun kissed side of the paper.
