German bandleader Bert Kaempfert was one of the most successful conductors, arrangers, and recording artists in the orchestral pop music field. A Swingin’ Safari is a classic Kaempfert’s 1962 recording which helped make him an international star. Included are some of his best-loved hits such as “A Swingin’ Safari,” “Afrikaan Beat,” and “The Happy Trumpeter.” The use of flutes, penny whistles, and voices contribute to the cheerful, lighthearted mood and became a staple of the “Kaempfert sound.” Trumpeter Fred Moch plays an unheralded, yet vital role throughout and remained an unsung star in the Kaempfert orchestra for many years. A Swingin’ Safari is one of the easy listening genre’s most endearing recordings with the original LP being a collector’s item.
