Gore-Tex membrane
At the base of all Gore-Tex fabrics there is a very thin membrane that has as a characteristic breathability and wind protection. It contains over 1.4 billion micro pores per square centimetre. The microscopic pores are about 20,000 times smaller than a drop of water and this makes the Gore-Tex membrane absolutely waterproof. The pores of the Gore-Tex membrane are 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule and therefore allows vapor to escape. This makes the membrane perfectly breathable. Furthermore, the membrane is absolutely windproof and this prevents hypothermia.
Gore-Tex Laminate
To use the GORE-TEX membrane in the manufacture of a finished product, it must first be fixed between the high performance lining and the outer fabrics. This combination of membrane and support material is referred to as GORE-TEX laminate. To make the finished product really waterproof, it is necessary to have the seams heat-sealed. Every stitch of a seam is a potential loss. That’s why we rely on the GORE-SEAM Tape for maximum waterproof protection. Every seam on garments, footwear and GORE-TEX gloves is heat-sealed by manufacturers specially trained in certified factories using Gore’s patented machines.
